One of The Field's ERPA recipients, Caroline Woolard, is building OurGoods.org, a cross between Saatchi Online, Etsy, Craigslist, and Kiva. OurGoods.org is an online peer-to-peer network where creative people can trade objects, services, and space with each other. To get the ball rolling Caroline is seeking performers to barter with and for her at an upcoming performance.
From Caroline:
www.OurGoods.org SEEKS enthusiastic bartering mutualists for a Public Performance, March 5-8th, 2009. Applicants for the Bartering Mutualist position at OurGoods must demonstrate a history of public performance and a strong commitment to bartering. Please send links to previous projects, dates of availability (February preparation for March 5-8th day performances) and a short Explanation of Interest to hello@ourgoods.org"
It's a new year. We gotta do things differently.
The Field provides strategic and creative services to thousands of performing and media artists and companies in New York City and beyond. Founded by artists for artists, we also respond proactively to sector-wide challenges through special programs such as Field Leadership Fund: a fellowship that offers real opportunities, remuneration and access to ambitious artists, arts organizations and arts managers.

Secretary of the Arts?
I just got back from Washington, DC on the Chinatown bus (thoroughly energized and inspired! and also with very sore thighs and shins from walkingwalkingwalking) and I am more than pleased to get in the tub and listen to the inimitable John Schaefer on WNYC debate the Arts Czar idea.
Dear Honorable President Obama, For your consideration of the newly minted Arts Czar position, I offer up Marc Anthony (and J.Lo) as a contender. Mr. Anthony held court at the Western States Inaugural Ball last night which I had the unbelievable luck to attend. I would never had guessed that I would enjoy his music but wow is he a good performer. Rigorous, humorous, confident, sexy and personable. Just like you and your wife. Thank you for your time and your consideration. Best wishes, your friend, Jennifer Wright Cook.
Shortly after Mr. Anthony exited the stage, VP Biden and his wife and then President Obama and Michelle took the stage (70 feet from my tiara-ed head?!!) and gave us glorious pieces of their big minds and then danced sweetly and romantically.
I am swimming in glee and luck from this trip. Now back to work we all go.

Arts in Recovery!
Americans for the Arts met with the Obama transition team and told them what we need. There are lots of different proposals out there for this recovery and they include, in theory, the big cheese arts organizations, the little cheeses and the solo cheese artists! The House's recovery proposal is here.
Americans for the Arts reminds us to SPEAK UP, email your reps, write letters, call, know your #s, know why you/we/the arts are important, don't give up, now is the time. WRITE!
I am going to the Inauguration - lucky me. I got a Purple Section ticket from an Idaho Dem. And a official ball event too! I will proudly and loudly be an artist and an arts administrator in our nation's capital. o o o o looking for Obama.
Thank you Americans for the Arts. Thank you artists. Thank you voters. Thank you audience.

The T.E.A.M. (ERPA recipient!) revitalizes downtown theater (says the hallowed NYTimes!)
Read it.
And don't weep.
Mr. Brantley says Mark Russell's fabulous Under the Radar fest is bringing theater back to life!
go team go!

WPA Fed One "oh oh oh looking for Obama"
Everyone is talking about the next WPA these days. It all seems so pure and idyllic. Isaac Butler at Parabasis is asking some hard questions though about SUPPLY of art outweighing demand. We can blame it all on the dumbing down of the American audience, capitalism, greed, etc but perhaps we gotta take some responsibility ourselves.
Are there toooooooooooooooooo many artists?
Is there toooooooooooooo much bad work?
Have we made it too easy to be an artist with so many MFA programs charging two arms and two legs but not really imparting any hard and fast skills or truths about how to run your arts business?
If we are heading into survival of the fittest and only the "real", dedicated, rigorous artists survive (and some trust fund artists whose parents didn't invest with Madoff) - is this all bad?
